A load (2170) is powered by a power source (2110) and a capacitive element (2135) in series such that the voltage provided to the load (2170) is the sum of the voltages of the power source (2110) and the capacitive element (2135). A power converter (2130) imposing a limit on a flow of current through at least a portion of the power converter (2130) is coupled to the power source (2110) and the capacitive element (2135), and selectively causes the capacitive element (2135) to either be charged or to discharge depending on the amount of current drawn by the load (2170). As the capacitor (2135) discharges, the power source (2110) is permitted to supply a relatively higher amount of current to the load (2170).
