<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detection system for accurately detecting an object made of metal materials with a small computational load. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Candidate pixels for metal materials are selected from a target image, and one of the candidate pixels is detected (S501), and the candidate pixels adjacent to the detected candidate pixels in the right direction are successively retrieved (S502). When N candidate pixels are not continued in the right direction (S503), the candidate pixels adjacent to the detected pixels in a downward direction are successively retrieved (S504). When the N candidate pixels are continued in either the right direction or the downward direction (S505), the mean value and maximum/minimum values of the continuous N candidate pixels are calculated (S506), and when the mean value is equal to or more than a predetermined value, and a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value is equal to or less than the predetermined value (S507), all the continuous N candidate pixels are corrected in an object absent region, and the adjacent pixels of the corrected pixels are successively corrected in the object absent region (S508).
