<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely and surely excavate a pit while preventing the collapse of natural ground. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pit excavating apparatus includes a screw 5 consisting of multiple upper/lower tiers of joint screws driven with an auger driving unit 4 attached to a base machine 2, a casing 6 consisting of multiple upper/lower tiers of joint casings covering the screw 5 except its lower part, an excavation bucket driving unit 7 fixed to the outer peripheral surface of the lowermost tier of joint casing 6B, and an excavation bucket 8 which is driven with the driving unit 7 and undergoes the insertion of the lower part of the screw 5 and of the casing 6. while receiving a reaction force from the base machine 2, excavation bits 10, ..., and auger bits 11, ..., excavate the ground G, and excavated sand and earth is discharged from the discharge outlet 12 of the casing 6. A guide pipe casing 20 is press fit prior to placement of liner plates 15A, ..., and sand and earth in the guide pipe casing 20 is excavated down to a level almost equivalent to the lower end of the guide pipe casing 20.
