PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method and apparatus for monitoring alertness of a driver of a vehicle.SOLUTION: A method of monitoring alertness of a driver (4) of a vehicle includes; continuously detecting and evaluating at least one physical parameter (PP) of the driver while the vehicle is in motion; and transmitting a periodic audio signal (S) of a predetermined frequency into the interior of the vehicle (1) for a predetermined period of time if the evaluated physical parameter (PP) is in a critical range, where the critical range indicates an appropriate level of fatigue of the driver. An apparatus for monitoring alertness of a driver of a vehicle includes a monitoring unit (2) having a sensor unit (2.1) configured to detect at least one physical parameter of a driver, and an evaluation unit (2.2) configured to evaluate the detected physical parameter while the vehicle is in motion and coupled to an audio device (3) configured to transmit a periodic audio signal into the interior of the vehicle if the evaluated physical parameter is in a critical range.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
