The folded airbag (12) is contained in a fabric casing (14). A rod-shaped gas generator (18) connected to the bag allows inflation. One or more tie rods (20) transmit pressure forces caused by expansion of the airbag, which act on the instrument panel (40). The forces are at least partially tensile. They preferably act on a vehicle support structure covered by the instrument panel. Tie rods (20) flank opposite sides of the airbag containment casing (14). The gas generator is surrounded by a clamp (22), which connects it to the vehicle structure (32). |
