A ring having an interchangeable setting system comprising: a plurality of independent ring portions each comprising a body having at least an open passage capable of encircling a finger, the independent ring portions being rotatably interconnected on an axis of rotation such that at least the open passages of each of the independent rings are independently rotatable relative to each other; a plurality of armatures, wherein at least one armature is disposed on each of said independent ring portions such that the armatures on each of the independent ring portions are independently rotatable relative to each other between a securing position where the plurality of armatures are cooperatively arranged to engage and immobilize an ornamental element therebetween onto said ring, and an open position wherein an opening is formed between the plurality of armatures sufficiently dimensioned to allow the removal of the ornamental element from said ring; wherein the plurality of armatures and open passages on each independent ring portion are such that the open passages are axially aligned when the plurality of armatures are in the first securing position, and wherein the open passages are axially unaligned when the plurality of armatures are in the second open position; and wherein the body of each of the independent ring portions define a plane orthogonal to the axis of rotation, and the armatures on adjacent independent ring portions are on opposite sides of the axis of rotation, such that rotation in one direction moves the armatures into the open position, and rotation in the opposite direction moves the armatures into the securing position.
