<p>Molten furnace waste which includes slag and steel is poured into a pit (12) where it is spread, mixed and tumbled with cooled slag to facilitate rapid cooling so it can be loaded into transporters for delivery to a secondary cooling area (20) where it is spread on the ground and allowed to cool and solidify in air over several days. The solidified waste is delivered to a separator 25, larger waste pieces first being broken up in a balling pit by a drop hammer. In the separator (25) metallic waste is magnetically separated from slag waste, and returned to the furnace for re-melt. Abortive steel sections from the steel plant are delivered to a reciprocating feeder (42) which urges each section under a guillotine (43) to cut up the section into portions which are returned for re-melt in the furnace. <IMAGE></p> |
