PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To treat patients having melanoma surgically removed with a higher patient compliance by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a PEG-modified interferon-αto the above patients for a sufficient period to increase a nonprogressive survival time. SOLUTION: This method for the therapy of melanoma is to administer a therapeutically effective amount of a PEG-modified interferon-α(preferably PEG-modified interferon-α-2a and/or PEG-modified interferon-α-2b) to patients having melanoma surgically removed (preferably untreated patients, especially untreated patients having melanoma newly diagnosed, or patients experienced in treatment, especially patients experienced in treatment and having intolerance or resistance to interferon-α) for a sufficient period (preferably at least about 24 months) to increase a non-proliferating survival time.
