PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify and speed up controlling of inclination of a damping apparatus for a press for transferring a proper amt. of water to a web. SOLUTION: An inclination or a pan roll PN is fitted on an inclination controlling bracket and this inclination controlling bracket 2, an inclination controlling rod 4, an inclination controlling rod bracket 5, link mechanisms 7 and 8 and a spring plunger bracket 10 are respectively pivot-rotatably fitted to the inclination controlling rod 4, the inclination controlling rod bracket 5, the link mechanisms 7 and 8, the spring plunger bracket 10 and a fixed bracket 11. When a handle 13 of the spring plunger bracket 10 is operated, pivot rotations are performed on each connecting point and eventually, the inclination controlling bracket 2 is pivot-rotated to control the angle of inclination or the pan roll PN. The inclination or the pan roll PN transfers damping water to a vibrating roll DV and then, it is transferred to a form roll DF and an upper or lower plate UP or LP.
