PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image discrimination device high in robustness against the change of the expression of a face image and illumination and the normalization error and capable of improving the discrimination rate. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a face image normalization part 220 which detects centers of eyes and the mouth in a face image extracted from an input image to an image input part 200 with a template by a face area extraction part 210 and uses affine transformation to deform the face image so as to bring centers of eyes and the mouth to preliminarily set positions and obtains an average and variance of luminance and performs normalization so that they may become preliminarily set values, a difference operation part 230 which obtains differences of luminance signals between corresponding pixels of the normalized face image and reference face image registered in a reference face image dictionary part 240, a histogram operation part 350 which obtains a histogram representing the number of pixels of each difference value, a Gaussian function approximation part 260 which approximates the histogram to a Gaussian function, and a collation discrimination part 270 which outputs the reference face image having the least variance of the Gaussian function as a face image.
