PURPOSE: A defrosting operation control method of an air conditioner is provided to prevent unnecessary defrosting operations by deciding the start conditions of the defrosting operation by the temperature of an outdoor pipe regard to the outdoor temperature. CONSTITUTION: A defrosting operation control method of an air conditioner having at least two compressors is composed of steps for detecting the operation capacity of the compressor for a heating operation; detecting the temperature for both the outdoor air and an outdoor pipe; deciding to start a defrosting operation if difference between the detected outdoor air and outdoor pipe temperatures is continued for a constant time over the predetermined temperature; and controlling the defrosting operation at the same with the detected operation capacity of the compressor if deciding to start the defrosting operation. In deciding to start the defrosting operation, when the compressor is turned off, the next defrosting operation is performed by driving two compressor(127,130).
