The cardboard sheets are provided with the individually required openings by a punching tool and moved in a very fast motion to the next station with pushing and pulling bars carried on chains. The cardboard pieces cut out by the punching tool are removed in the next step while the sheet is positioned on top of a waste piece removal plate (15). In order to protect the sheets from being compressed by the pushing forces, a suction arrangement assembled of a pneumatic unit (23), transport ducts (25) and outlets (22) is integrated in the plate (15).
