PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cross groove type constant velocity universal joint for an automobile drive shaft, having improved bending property with less hitch during bending and improved assembling efficiency during vehicle assembly while avoiding a reduction of a maximum operating angle when reducing the intersecting angle of a ball groove to increase a sliding stroke. SOLUTION: The joint comprises an inner ring 2 having ball grooves 2a, 2b twisted in mutually opposite directions and alternately formed in the circumferential direction and an outer ring 4 having ball grooves 4a, 4b twisted in mutually opposite directions and alternately formed in the circumferential direction. Torque transmission balls 6 are incorporated in intersecting areas between the ball grooves 2a, 2b and 4a, 4b of the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 4, twisted in mutually opposite directions, and a cage 8 is provided for holding the torque transmission balls 6. The intersecting angles of the ball grooves 2a, 2b of the inner ring 2 and the ball grooves 4a, 4b of the outer ring 4, twisted in mutually opposite directions, to the axial line of the inner ring 2 or the outer ring 4 are 10-15°, and the number of the torque transmission balls is 10.
