A channel quality information reporting method for reporting channel qual ity information from a user terminal to a base station comprises: a format d etermination step in which the base station determines a channel quality inf ormation format based on information from the user terminal; a format transm ission step in which the base station transmits the determined channel quali ty information format to the user terminal; and a channel quality informatio n generation step in which the user terminal generates channel quality infor mation based on the received channel quality information format. The base st ation may determine the channel quality information format based on a requir ed data rate. The base station may also determine the channel quality inform ation format based on a delay spread. The base station may also determine th e channel quality information format based on a moving speed.
