A noncontact IC medium direction detecting apparatus (1) is provided with a receiving means (10) which can read information from a noncontact IC medium (25) in different directivity directions, and an information processing means (13) for controlling the receiving means. The information processing means is configured to execute first acquisition processing for acquiring the level of a signal received from the noncontact IC medium having prescribed identification information by having directivity direction in a first direction; second acquisition processing for acquiring the level of a signal received from the noncontact IC medium by having the directivity direction in a second direction; synthesizing processing for acquiring a synthesized signal level by performing difference operation or division of the signal level in the first direction and the signal level in the second direction; and existence direction operating processing for acquiring a direction wherein a target noncontact IC medium exists, by operation using the synthesized signal level. Thus, the noncontact IC medium direction detecting device which easily obtains the existence direction of the noncontact IC medium is provided. A method and a program for detecting the direction of the noncontact IC medium, and a computer-readable recording medium having such program recorded thereon are also provided.
