A portable electronic apparatus includes a display unit, a key operation unit which detects depression operation of each of a first direction key and a second direction key adjacent to the first direction key and outputs a detection signal, and a control unit which controls displaying of a screen of the display unit in accordance with the detection signal. The control unit comprises a cursor movement detection unit which outputs a cursor movement information for moving the cursor on the screen of the display unit in accordance with a detection signal outputted when the first direction key is depressed solely, and a scrolling movement detection unit which outputs a scrolling operation information for scrolling the screen of the display unit in accordance with a detection signal outputted when both the first direction key and the second direction key are depressed simultaneously. <IMAGE>
