PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing xylo-oligosaccharide in which a step for refining a crude solution containing xylo-oligosaccharide can be simplified and sugar solution having high refining degree can be obtained, particularly to provide a method for producing xylo-oligosaccharide in which nonionic impurity in which effective removal by treatment using an ion exchange resin is difficult is simply and efficiently removed. SOLUTION: An ester compound contained as the impurity in the crude solution containing xylo-oligosaccharide is decomposed to an acid and an alcohol which can readily be removed by irradiating the crude solution containing the xylo-oligosaccharide with ultraviolet light.
