<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic key device for a vehicle capable of reducing consumption of electric power by on-vehicle equipment, shortening the time required for certification, and improving its response property. <P>SOLUTION: This electronic key device for the vehicle is provided with the on-vehicle equipment and a plurality of portable equipments to operate controlling equipments when it certifies ID codes of the portable equipments. The on-vehicle equipment 10 is provided with a transmitting and receiving means 12, a memory 13, a receiving intensity determining means 14, a driving means 15, and a CPU 11 for transmitting a first request signal to a third request signal in accordance with the agreement of the results of checking the request signals against answer signals sequentially to receive the first answer signal to the third answer signal from the portable equipments sequentially, checking answer signals against the first to third answer signals stored in the memory every time when receiving the answer signals, and outputting a control signal to the driving means when the finally registered ID codes of the portable equipments are certified.
