PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus less liable to cause irregularities of a carried toner image by making a change of an electrified state of a belt member when passing through a supporting rotating body connected to ground potential more similar to natural attenuation without adding an electrification power source. SOLUTION: A primary transfer downstream roller 20 connected to the ground potential comes into contact with a surface opposite to a toner image carrying surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7 on a downstream side of a primary transfer part T1 for transferring a toner image to the intermediate transfer belt from a photoreceptor drum 1. A scattering phenomenon of the toner image carried on the intermediate transfer belt 7 is caused by rapidly discharging electrification charge of the intermediate transfer belt 7 through the primary transfer downstream roller 20 when passing through the primary transfer downstream roller 20. Then, spiral groove structure is formed on a cylindrical surface of the primary transfer downstream roller 20 to support the intermediate transfer belt 7 linearly by a ridge line of the groove structure.
