PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anthracene derivative that has properties characteristic of anthracene, for example, high carbon density, high melting point, high stability, high refractive index, fluorescent performance induced by ultraviolet rays and the like and has a diversity of reactions, to provide a method for producing the anthracene derivative and to provide a phenol resin.SOLUTION: An anthracene derivative is represented by formula (1). In formula (1), X represents a hydroxyaryl group. As the X, a hydroxyphenyl group is preferable. The phenol resin is produced by reacting the anthracene derivative with aldehydes. The method for producing the anthracene derivative represented by formula (1) has a step of reacting phenols with anthracene-9-carboaldehyde in the absence of a solvent or in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
