A protective screen for an air vent includes a mesh screen having an outer perimeter. There is at least one heat source in thermal contact with the mesh screen that provides heat at a plurality of points toward the outer perimeter of the mesh screen. A circuit for connecting the plurality of resistive elements to a power source is provided. The circuit includes a thermal sensor and a switch. The thermal sensor and the switch control the operation of the heat source to maintain the mesh screen within a desired temperature range.
