摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low water absorption glass of uniform in product quality by finely crushing the cullet of waste bottle, specifying the amt. of a blowing agent added, the particle diameter of fine glass powder, the thickness of laid fine glass powder, firing temp. and firing time. SOLUTION: Glass cullet chiefly obtd. from waste glass bottles is pulverized to 10-500μm average particle diameter, 0.1-4.0 wt.% one or more selected from silicon carbide, fine powdery carbon, calcium carbonate, barium carbonate, magnesium carbonate and borax are added as a blowing agent to the resultant fine glass powder and this powder is laid in 5-30 mm thickness on a meshy belt or a caterpillar in a roller hearth kiln or a tunnel kiln. The laid powder is melted, expanded, fired at 850-970 deg.C for 10-30 min, rapidly cooled and cominunted to obtain the objective massive expanded glass having 0.1-1.2 gf/cm3 bulk specific gravity and <=10% of 24 hr water absorption.
