PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve coherent properties without lowering multicolor effects, and the like, by applying a coherent coating film forming coating material which contains a dark color coating film forming coating material and a specified quantity of titanium oxide or silica flakes and has a specified substrate hiding film thickness and a transparent coating film-forming clear coating material. SOLUTION: A dark color coating film forming coating material (A) forms a dark color coating film, is preferably a liquid coating material which forms a dark color coating film especially 20 or below in L-value (brightness) of a Hunter Lab. series, and is applied on a surface to be coated in advance of a coherent coating film forming coating material (B). The coating material (B) is applied on the cured or uncured coating surface of the coating material (A), contains 0.1-2 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. of a resin solid content, of silica flakes coated with titanium oxide or iron oxide, and has a substrate hiding film thickness of at least 40μm. With the applied coating material (B) cured by heating or uncured, a transparent coating film-forming clear coating material (C) is applied on the coating surface in order to form a transparent coating film.
