PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a color and stably detect the leakage of a gas at normal temperature to a temperature as high as about 500 deg.C by contact with the gas in relation to a coating film for detecting the leakage of a fuel gas. SOLUTION: This coating film for detecting the leakage of a fuel gas is capable of inserting an imitation tube 2 for the leakage of the fuel gas into a glass outer tube 1, coating the periphery with a coating film sample 5, hermetically sealing the interior of the glass outer tube 1 with flanges 6a, 6b, 7a and 7b, making a fuel imitation gas 14 flow through the interior, jetting the gas 14 from holes on the surface of the imitation tube 2 to the periphery, making air flow through the periphery, heating the tube with a spiral heater 3 from normal temperature to 500 deg.C, carrying out a test on detection of the gas leakage, thereby discoloring the coating film sample 5 and enabling the discrimination of the gas. A group 3A to 4B metal oxide powder of the 4th to the 6th period is used as a pigment in the coating film, which is stable to ultraviolet rays. Since an alkoxysilane is used as a binder, the durability under high-temperature conditions is excellent and the detection of gas leakage with the stable discoloration can be performed even by applying the coating film to a boiler outer wall, etc., at a temperature within the range of normal temperature to 300 deg.C or 300 to 500 deg.C.
