An apparatus and a method for detecting errors of an image display device are provided to record error causes before a predetermined section in which errors exist. An apparatus for detecting errors of an image display device includes a controller(130), an error storing unit(200), and a data transformation unit(140). The controller(130) determines with a preset period if errors exist in a plurality of ICs and various kinds of software, and detects the errors. The error storing unit(200) stores the error information according to the control signal of the controller(130). The data transformation unit(140) changes a data format such that the error information detected by the controller(130) is stored in the error storing unit(200), or such that the error information stored in the error storing unit(200) is detected in the controller(130).
