Upstream (45) and downstream (23) pump assemblies are mounted in a capsule (15) having a bulkhead (37) between the electrical submersible pump (ESP) assemblies, dividing the capsule (15) into upstream (38) and downstream (36) chambers sealed from each other. In a dual operation mode, well fluid flows through the inlet of the capsule (15) into the upstream chamber (38), where it is pumped to a first pressure level by the upstream pump assembly (45) and discharged into the downstream chamber (36). The downstream pump assembly (23) then pumps the well fluid to a second pressure level and discharges the well fluid out the outlet of the capsule (15). The assembly has also an upstream pump assembly only operational mode and a downstream pump assembly only operational mode. Also disclosed is an upstream ESP assembly within a capsule and a downstream electrically powered device, such as a sensor, that is either in the capsule or suspended by it below the bulkhead. |
