A walk assistance device has a seat member (1) where the user is seated in a straddling manner, a leg link (2) connected to the seat member (1), and a drive source (9) capable of driving the leg link (2) in the direction of pushing up the seat member (1). At least a part of the weight of the user's body is supported by the leg link (2) through the seat member (1). The walk assistance device can be easily installed on the user by themselves. A holding section (1d) which the user can hold is provided on the seat member (1). When holding detection means detects that the holding section (1d) is held by the user, the walk assistance device performs installation assistance control in which the leg link (2) is driven in the direction of pushing up the seat member (1) until seating detection means detects the contact of the seat member (1) with the crotch of the user.
