<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil absorbent for preventing oil diffusion, which has high performance of adsorbing/fixing mineral oil or grease on the surface thereof, does not require the conventional recovery work but can be left as it is after used. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The oil absorbent 10 is produced by covering the surface of a base material 1 with an oleophilic film 7 to be formed by using a film compound containing one of a hydrocarbon group, an ester group-containing hydrocarbon group and an ether group-containing hydrocarbon group. A method for producing the oil absorbent 10 comprises a step of treating the base material 1 with an oleophilizing liquid prepared by dispersing the film compound containing a reactive group, which reacts with a surface functional group on the surface of the base material to form a bond, in a solvent to form the oleophilic film 7 on the surface of the base material 1.
