PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a clarification material in which the surface area can be increased by forming fine pores with activated carbon and which can adsorb a large number of objects to be adsorbed.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for activating carbon material by reacting COgas with a carbon material to form fine pores therein, and in which a first step of gradually raising the pressure of COgas in contact with the carbon material so that the pressure becomes a predetermined magnitude in a predetermined time, and a second step of reducing the pressure of the COgas in contact with the carbon material to a predetermined magnitude are carried out at least once.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
