PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dehydrator which has a simple constitution and by which the water content of sludge can be further reduced. SOLUTION: In a dehydrator provided with a compressing means for compressing the sludge between a pair of filter cloth belts 2A and 2B from the both outer sides of the filter cloth belts 2A and 2B by using a pair of plates 11A and 11B, the sludge compressed by the plates 11A and 11B is further locally pressed from the plate 11B side by a pressing diaphragm 30 during the compression and as a result shearing force is applied to the compressed sludge and particles in the sludge are rearranged and closely packed to discharge the liquid held in the gaps between particles.
