PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the ability to adequately dissipate energy of high-flow sewage etc., even in the case of an energy dissipator small enough to be installable in a manhole. SOLUTION: This energy dissipator is provided with an energy dissipator tank 1 wherein an inflow port 11 and an outflow port 12 are formed; an energy dissipating wall 2 for dissipating the energy of a water flow, which flows in from the inflow port 11, is arranged inside the tank 1; the wall 2 structurally comprises an upper wall 21 for covering an upward part of an area ahead of the inflow port 11, a vertical wall 22 which is elongated downward from a leading end of the upper wall 21, and an inclined plane 23A which is inclined obliquely downward to the side of the inflow port from a lower end of the vertical wall 22; and at least a part of the inclined plane 23A of the wall 2 is arranged in such a manner as to face the inflow port 11, so that a great energy-dissipating effect can be obtained by causing a hydraulic jump in two areas, that is, an area 1A, which is surrounded by the wall 2, and an area 1B on the side of the outflow port 12.
