The loss of a power converter which steps up a solar voltage, converts it into an AC voltage, and supplies the AC power to a load or a system is reduced and the efficiency is improved. An inverter unit (1) in which the AC sides of three single-phase inverters (1B-INV, 2B-INV, 3B-INV) the inputs of which are DC power supplies (V<SUB>1B</SUB>, V<SUB>2B</SUB>, V<SUB>3B</SUB> ) having voltages the ratio between which is 1:3:9 are connected in series and the output voltage is gradation-controlled by the sum of the generated voltages is used. The maximum DC power supply (V<SUB>3B</SUB>) is generated by stepping up the solar voltages (V<SUB>O</SUB>) by a chopper circuit (3). When (V<SUB>O</SUB>) exceeds a predetermined voltage V<SUB>m1</SUB> (195V), the step-up operation of the chopper circuit (3) is stopped, and the loss attributed to the step up is reduced. |
