<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an optically active alcohol in a high yield and stereoselectively, by using Lewis acid catalyst having a ligand optically active in an aqueous solution and asymmetric ring-opening reaction of a mesoepoxide heterocyclic compound. <P>SOLUTION: The asymmetric ring-opening reaction of a mesoepoxide heterocyclic compound proceeds in a high yield and stereoselectively so as to produce an optically active alcohol compound represented by formula (1) or formula (2) by using an asymmetric catalyst comprising a Lewis acid and an optically active bipyridine compound. Wherein R<SP>4</SP>is phenyl or the like; R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>jointly form an aromatic ring, heterocyclic ring or the like; Y<SP>2</SP>is =CH- or =N- ; and Z is -NH-, -O-, -S- or the like. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
