<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively reducing only an amide group, using an organohydrosilane and a ruthenium complex as a reducing agent and a catalyst, respectively, in a reaction for reducing one or more compounds containing the amide group and also containing a plurality of coexisting carbonyl groups. <P>SOLUTION: The organohydrosilane and the ruthenium complex are used as the reducing agent and the catalyst, respectively, whereby the Si-H bonds of the organohydrosilane are activated to perform the reduction reaction. In this method, the easily available organohydrosilane having good handleability and high storage stability can be used as the reducing agent.
