UNDERWATER REPAIR WELDING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of weld defects due to blowing-off of a weld metal when residual water in a gap of a lap weld zone jets out as steam, in repairing flaws in a weld bead or a base metal of a structure constituted by lap welding.

SOLUTION: An underwater repair welding method includes; a process of making a steam release hole 12 penetrating a curing plate 3; a process of repairing afterward a defective part 1 by laser welding by irradiating the part with a laser beam 7 coaxially with a nozzle 9 underwater while an inert gas is jetted from the nozzle 9 to the defective part 1; and a process of hermetically sealing thereafter the steam release hole 12 by laser welding by irradiating the release hole 12 with the laser beam 7 coaxially with the nozzle 9 underwater while the inert gas is jetted from the nozzle 9 to the steam release hole 12.
