<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal medium, which exhibits a nematic phase in a wide range as well as a clear point of 70°C or higher, shows a preferred capacity threshold level, a comparatively high retention level and adequate low-temperature stability between -30°C and -40°C, and has low rotational viscosity and short response time. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal medium with negative dielectric anisotropy based on a mixture of polar compounds includes a first compound presented in formula 1A, wherein R<SP>1A</SP>represents a C2-6 alkenyl group or the like; R<SP>2A</SP>represents a C1-6 alkyl or alkenyl group or the like; A and B represent a cyclohexyl or phenyl group; Y<SP>1</SP>and Y<SP>2</SP>represent F, Cl, or the like; Y<SP>3</SP>represents H or CH<SB>3</SB>; a and b represent zero, 1 or 2; and a+b is equal to or more than 1, and includes at least one second compound selected from the group of three compounds having a specific structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
