PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable starting of image reading or image formation on a recording sheet at a comparatively short timing in reading an original in a double-sided reverse-reading mode, even in an image forming apparatus in which a close contact optical system image sensor is disposed on an upstream side of an original transfer direction more than a reduction optical system image sensor. SOLUTION: During a document reading operation in a double-sided reverse-reading mode ("high image definition mode" in S2), a control section causes a document feeding section to convey a document at a predetermined speed which is faster than a predetermined document reading speed at which a CIS can read the document when the document passes through the document reading position of the CIS (S3). When the document passes through the document reading position of a CCD (YES in S4), the control section causes the document feeding section to convey the document at a predetermined document reading speed at which the CCD can read the document (S5).
