A machine tool (1) for machining preferably sheet-type workpieces has a work support comprising a support part (9) on the loading side and an additional support part (10). The additional support part (10) can be moved, relative to the loading-side support part (9), into a loading area (2) and an unloading area (3) of the machine tool (1), the unloading area being horizontally offset in relation to the loading area (2). If the loading-side support part (9) is situated at a sidelined level, the additional support part (10) can be moved into a takeover position in the loading area (2), said position lying under or over the loading-side support part (9). A workpiece (14) to be machined can be loaded onto the additional support part (10) in the takeover position. The additional support part (10) comprising the loaded workpiece (14) can be moved out of the takeover position into the unloading area (3) and can be positioned at a loading level in said area. At the loading level the additional support part (10) lies flush with the loading-side support part (9) that is situated at the loading level, such that the workpiece (14) to be machined can be moved by means of a workpiece moving device (19) in a horizontal workpiece motion over the additional support part (10) and the loading-side support part (9). After the workpiece machining process, the additional support part (10) stores the machined product (18) produced during said workpiece machining process. When the loading-side support part (9) is at the sidelined level, after the workpiece machining process the additional support part (10) can be moved in an unloading motion from an initial unloading position in the unloading area (3) into the takeover position in the loading area (2). During the unloading motion, the additional support part (10) moves in relation to the machined product (18) which remains in the unloading area (3) and which is consequently unloaded. A method for loading and unloading a work support of a machine tool (1) comprises the aforementioned method steps. |
