Disclosed is a method for inputting English letters/numerals/symbols by using a two-row or three-row software keypad. The character input method disclosed herein comprises: a step of displaying, on a touchscreen, a QWERTY software keypad having eight main key buttons in the first row; a step of detecting a touch on the part of the touchscreen where a first main key button among the main key buttons is displayed; and a step of inputting, on the basis of the pattern of the touch, one of the two or more characters corresponding to the first main key button into a text box displayed on the touchscreen, wherein the main key button at position (1, 1) corresponds to characters 'a', 'b', 'c', '@', '&', the main key button at position (1, 2) corresponds to characters 'd', 'e', 'f', '*', '#', the main key button at position (1, 3) corresponds to characters 'g', 'h', 'i', '(', ')', the main key button at position (1, 4) corresponds to characters 'j', 'k', 'l', ':', ';', the main key button at position (1, 5) corresponds to characters 'm', 'n', 'o', '?', '!', the main key button at position (1, 6) corresponds to characters 'p', 'q', 'r', 's', the main key button at position (1, 7) corresponds to characters 't', 'u', 'v', '.', ',', and the main key button at position (1, 8) corresponds to characters 'w', 'x', 'y', 'z'. Accordingly, the present invention enables intuitive and efficient input of English letters/numerals/symbols (special characters) on an electronic device having a touchscreen. |
