Provided are an azo compound, a curable composition containing a colorant comprising the compound, a color filter containing the compound, and its preparation method to reduce the amount of a dye with improving chromaticity, thereby enhancing various resist characteristics. The azo compound is represented by the formula I, wherein R1 and R2 are H, a C1-C21 alkyl group, a C2-C21 alkenyl group, a C6-C21 aryl group or a c7-C21 aralkyl group, respectively, or R1 and R2 can form a hetero ring together with a nitrogen atom; R3 is a halogen atom, a trihalomethyl group, a C1-C21 alkoxy group or a nitro group; R4 is a halogen atom or -SO3M; M is a metal cation or the cation of a nitrogen-containing compound; m is an integer of 1-5; and n is an integer of 0-4. |
