PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine that can securely remove thread out of the way at the end of sewing process without enlarging the equipment itself. SOLUTION: A control section 100 of a sewing machine is provided with a controlling function that gives a drawing force to an upper thread by driving a cloth moving means after cutting the thread. The control section 100 is also equipped with a controlling function that drives the thread cutting means after the controlling function giving a drawing force to the upper thread by the cloth moving means after cutting the thread. The control section 100 is further provided with a memorizing means for memorizing the data of the remaining length of the upper thread and a controlling function that compares the remaining length of the upper thread memorized in the memorizing means and the amount of the cloth moved for the next processing by the cloth moving means after cutting the thread and automatically selects whether or not to move the thread out of the way by a wiper.
