PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for welding aluminum alloy materials having excellent weld crack resistance in a melt welding method, and to provide a method for evaluating the weld crack resistance of aluminum alloy materials. SOLUTION: When aluminum alloy materials selected from 5,000 series, 6,000 series and 7,000 series having high strength are each welded using a filler metal, so as to produce a joint having high joint strength and joint efficiency, and also having excellent weld crack resistance, the aluminum alloy materials in which an exothermic peak at≤550°C in a cooling curve from a melt obtained by measuring the thermal change in the solidification stage of the aluminum alloy materials by differential thermal analysis is not substantially recognized are selectively used Further, owing to the fact that the exothermic peak is present or not, the weld crack resistance of the aluminum alloy materials to be welded is evaluated as well.
