<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved articulation mechanism for articulating a tool assembly of a surgical stapling apparatus by an electric mechanical means. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical stapling apparatus comprises a handle assembly, a slender body extending in the distal direction from the handle assembly, and the articulation mechanism. The articulation mechanism includes a first gear rotatably attached to a transmission shaft and configured to be engaged with a second gear, a clutch to connect the second gear and a main shaft to each other, and a yoke shaft connected to the main shaft and adapted to linearly advance a J-channel which is movably connected to an articulation link. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
