An automatic fuel inlet opening/closing device and a method of controlling the device are provided to feed fuel to a vehicle without pushing a fuel inlet open switch and feed only corresponding fuel to a diesel or gasoline vehicle. An automatic fuel inlet opening/closing device includes an evaporated gas sensor(100), an opening/closing means(300) and a controller. The evaporated gas sensor senses evaporated gas emitted from a fuel inlet gun. The opening/closing means opens a fuel inlet(200) when the evaporated gas sensor senses corresponding fuel. The controller controls the opening/closing means.
