PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To utilize a dynamic resolution technique, an improved dynamic resolution technique and/or a performance-enhanced dynamic resolution technique for synthesizing a beam such as an ultrasonic beam having a desired attribute and used in ultrasonic imaging.SOLUTION: A first sample beam and a second or auxiliary sample beam are simultaneously formed for all the samples in order to synthesize a performance-enhanced scan beam. With a dynamic resolution technique, a new beam can be formed from the sum of the two sample beams. The synthesized dynamic resolution beam has a reduced side lobe, and the expanse of a main lobe is relatively small or none at all. A performance-enhanced dynamic resolution beam sharpening function may be applied to provide a performance-enhanced beam for narrowing the main lobe and the like.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2A |
