摘要 Provided are an optical viewing device and a method for controlling the same, whereby a polarizer can be set to an optimum angle without changing the brightness of a viewing image. A binocular telescope (10) is provided with a first polarizer (16), a first rotational drive part (20), a linearly polarized component extraction part (26), an imaging element (28), a polarization direction detecting part (30), and a rotation control part (32). The first polarizer (16) transmits a specific linearly polarized component. The first polarizer (16) is arranged so as to be able to rotate in a plant orthogonal to the optical axis of a first optical path, and is rotationally driven by the first rotational drive part (20). The linearly polarized component extraction part (26) is parallel to the first optical path and arranged on an independent second optical path, and extracts each linearly polarized component for a plurality of polarization directions from incident light. The polarization direction detecting part (30) detects the optimum polarization direction on the basis of an imaging signal. The rotation control part (32) controls the first rotational drive part (20) and sets the first polarizer (16) to an angle whereby a linearly polarized component in the optimum polarization direction is transmitted.
