PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can accurately perform control so as to increase head back pressure at the time of wiping more than head back pressure at the time of a printing operation.SOLUTION: A printer comprises: an ink discharge head 361 which discharges ink; a wiper 61 which wipes an ink discharge head 361; a sub-tank 821 which stores ink supplied to the ink discharge head 361; an ink circulation channel 823; a circulation pump 824 which circulates ink in the ink circulation channel 823; and a first compression unit 851 which compresses the inside of the sub-tank 821 up to the first pressure higher than the pressure in the sub-tank 821 at the time of the printing operation for discharging ink to a printing medium by the ink discharge head 361 at the time of wiping the ink discharge head 361 by the wiper 61. The circulation pump 824 stops the operation at the time of wiping.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
