Disclosed is a generator system (1) for rail vehicles, said system comprising a rotor (18), a stator (19) and a wheel set bearing unit (3), wherein the wheel set bearing unit (3) comprises a bearing (5) for supporting a wheel set shaft (4) and comprises a bearing housing (9), wherein an end cap (11) is arranged on the end face of the wheel set shaft (4) and a non-rotatable connection is provided between the end cap (11) and the wheel set shaft (4). The stator (19) is connected to the bearing housing (9), wherein both the end cap (11) and the rotor (18) have a circumferential groove (14) for a wraparound means (16) on their outer circumference (13), and the wraparound means (16) couples the rotor (18) and the end cap (11) to one another such that the end cap (11) connected to the wheel set shaft (4) drives the rotor (18).
