The metal-air cell has an anode-electrolyte unit (12) and an air cathode (16) received within a container (30), with a separation element (14) between them. A cover (40), which is electrically coupled to the cathode, has a recess receiving a sealing ring (28), against which the cover is pressed by a spring (24), with the spring bias overcome by a given force, for separation of the cover from the sealing ring, to provide an opening for the air required for the electrochemical reaction.
