The method involves using a device with a stamp (2), an external work piece or blank holder (4) that is moved freely and vertically by a press element and a vertically moving die mould (6) opposite the stamp. A thin plate is placed on the work piece holder that is raised by the press element. The mould is lowered to hold the plate between the work piece holder and the mould and the stamp is pressed to mould the plate. A shock absorber unit is provided to guide the work piece holder and press the mould on the thin plate on the work piece holder. Independent claims are included for a device for implementing the method and a shock absorber unit.
